Craig Charles, a man known to the cool kids as star of Red Dwarf and a BBC 6 Music DJ, and to middle-aged folk as ‘the bloke from Coronation Street’, is heading to 53 Degrees.
Charles has got an invite back after the success of last year’s sell-out Xmas Funk and Soul Show at the venue, when he was resident DJ for the night.
He’ll be doing the same again on November 16, spinning tunes from the likes of Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Al Green, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and many more.
Tickets are £11 and available from www.53degrees.net
* Dahlia’s Kitchen has what look like a couple of tasty entertainment nights coming up. The coffee-shop/restaurant, based on Cropper Road in Marton, has booked Karen Carpenter and Cliff Richard tribute acts in the next couple of months.
The idea is to have a meal while you watch a bit of singing.
The Cliff Richard act sounds particularly interesting – a fella called Jimmy Jermain, who grew up in the same village as Cliff (Cheshunt in Hertfordshire) attended the same school, and had the same English and drama teacher. Jermain has been on Stars In Their Eyes too, so knows what he’s doing.
The Cliff Richard night is on Friday August 30, Karen Carpenter (aka lookalike Julie Roberts) is at the venue on Friday September 27. A three-course meal on either night costs £20. For more information go to www.dahliaskitchen.co.uk or call (01253) 761 499.
* They say men these days are just as likely as women to slap on moisturiser and straighten their hair. If you’re that kind of fella then Stanley Park’s De Vere hotel is the place for you.
The hotel is offering 25 per cent of all treatments this month, such as a muscle reviver or a half back wax (brings tears to the eyes just reading that sentence).
Head to www.villageurbanresorts.co.uk for details.
* Circus Mondao starts tonight on Norcross Lane in Thornton-Cleveleys. Opening night seats are a cut-price £5.99. Go to www.circusmondao.co.uk
