Like a good movie, there was action, there was excitement and a great soundtrack.

And the Hollywood-themed Evening with the Stars from Strictly Come Dancing also had fun, stunning costumes, and a very special performance from local youngsters.

While it was an enjoyable and entertaining evening, I couldn’t help feeling I probably would have liked a little less conversation and a little more action.

The dance routines performed by the stars of the show – from Strictly Pasha Kovalev and Katya Visrhilas, with special guest dancers Lindsey Muckle and Ryan Hammond – were spectacular, set to songs from famous movies. Youngsters from the Phyllis Davis School of Dance, from Cleveleys, performed two very impressive numbers to popular chart hits, packed with choreography, which left this reviewer wondering just how much time they must have devoted to practising, as the routines were so sharp.

Compere Mike Newman was likeable, funny and entertaining, but I was left feeling I wanted more dance.
