You can today register for Blackpool’s big Light’s Switch-On night – with more tickets being made available for local residents.

The famed annual Illuminations event – rebranded this year as Blackpool iFest – takes place on Friday, September 4.

It will feature a host of top music stars as well as the big moment when the Lights are turned on for the first time in 2015.

The event is free to attend and the ballot is now open for tickets.

People can now put their name in the hat by registering at www.visitblackpool.com/switchon for their chance to receive up to four tickets per household.

Last year, around 80,000 people applied for tickets to attend the event.

Alan Cavill, Blackpool Council’s assistant chief executive, said: “Switch-On night is without doubt the biggest night in Blackpool’s calendar and is unbelievably popular with more than 80,000 people applying for tickets last year.

“The event attracted some of the biggest stars in Britain last year, from Peter Kay (right) and Little Mix to Pixie Lott and George Ezra.

“This year we will deliver yet another fantastic line-up and a stunning show to start off the Blackpool Illuminations season with a bang.

“I would urge people to apply for their wristbands now – if you’re successful it will undoubtedly be the best free night out you’ll have this year.”

With a capacity of 20,000 for Switch-On night, the event will be held on the Tower Festival Headland. Locals will have a dedicated 8,000 tickets, which is an increase on last year’s number.

A further 5,000 tickets will be guaranteed for Switch-On night for people buying a weekend Blackpool iFest ticket and tickets for the Saturday and Sunday events will be on sale shortly.
