The last of this season’s Fylde Arts Mid Day recitals at Poulton Methodist Church tomorrow features popular concert pianist John Shirley.
John has been a loyal supporter of classical music in this area since his first appearance 30 years ago in the first series of Grundy Mid Day recitals organised by Marjorie Pennington at the Blackpool Art Gallery.
He has performed throughout the UK and has appeared as concerto soloist with various orchestras.
A distinguished student at the Royal Northern College of Music, he won prizes and piano competitions and a Chopin Scholarship to study in Warsaw.
John has worked in various areas as a teachers at Chetham’s School of Music, Finchley Music Centre in London and privately in Chester, Stockport and Harrogate.
Friday’s programme includes works by Beethoven, Schubert and various items by Debussy and Chopin.
The recital begins at 1pm and admission is £7 with £5 for Fylde Arts members.
