Professor Green - Empress Ballroom, Blackpool
They say honesty is the best policy – and it seems to work for Professor Green.
The rapper had the crowd wrapped around his little finger during his engaging performance in Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom.
He gave his all, bouncing off the walls – despite having messed up his ankle at a previous gig – during hits like Monster and drawing the crowd in with emotive lyrics about his failed relationship with his father during Forever Falling.
The Hackney star kept the audience happy with a generous helping of hits such as I Need You Tonight and Just Be Good to Green from his debut album Alive Till I’m Dead while new material from his second album, At Your Inconvenience, were well received.
His lyrics are littered with honest remarks and a sharp sense of humour – with lines such as “with my trousers all the way up to my nipples, looking like Simon Cowell” getting a laugh from the crowd.
But it was when special guest Smiler – who had won the audience’s affection initially as the support act – joined Professor Green on stage that the crowd were well and truly bouncing.
Pro Green’s hour-long set was full of energy, but it was clear from the deafening foot stamping that the audience wanted more.
The encore, Jungle – about troubled life in London – got a great reaction but it was the wordsmith’s bestselling song to date Read All About It which was the chart topper everyone was really waiting for.
