Shoppers will be tapping their feet in Blackpool tomorrow when St John’s Square turns back the clocks for music lovers.
A giant outdoor cinema screen is being installed in the square for the afternoon in order to play people’s favourite music videos from past decades.
The free event, which has been organised by the Blackpool Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), will take place between noon and 4pm.
Eileen Ormand, Blackpool’s Town Centre and Blackpool BID Manager said: “Everyone has a favourite music video and we will be playing videos for people of all ages to enjoy.
“The weather is looking good for the weekend so come on down to St John’s Square for a fun afternoon of free entertainment.”
She added: “Videos will range from A-Ha to Thriller, Queen to Lady Gaga, and we will be counting down the most iconic music videos of all time live on our giant outdoor cinema screen.
“Pull up a chair (or bring your own) and relive the golden age of music videos – all for free.
“You don’t have to sing along to enjoy the show as it isn’t compulsory but some of the music videos you just can’t help but join in with.”
Music videos came into their heyday in the 1980s and have proved popular ever since.
Tomorrow’s video screening is the latest in a series of events organised by the BID in St John’s Square.
This year has already seen crowds enjoy a Chilli Festival and a Strongest Man competition, while last weekend the area hosted events to mark Armed Forces Week.
Traders in the area have welcomed the move towards more events being held in the square which they hope will boost business.
In recent times, the area has seen new investment including restaurants and bars, and it is also a key route for visitors and residents using the Winter Gardens.
