Blackpool’s favourite instrument, the ukulele, has been riding high on a wave of popularity of late and has become the fastest selling musical instrument in Britain.
The Ukuleles are a fresh new young and exciting outfit who are capturing a musical moment in history – and they make their Fylde coast debut tonight opening the show for The soldiers at the Marine Hall in Fleetwood.
Logan Wilson a self taught player discovered his love of the instrument at an early age when he lived in Hawaii.
When he returned to the UK he explored other instruments but would always come back to the simplistic and soothing sounds of the uke.
Fast forward to 2012 and he was at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton when he spotted Martha Paton who was performing with her uke and had already gained a reputation as a credible singer and uke player on the Internet and festival gig circuit.
With Logan’s Hawaiian grounding, he saw a unique opportunity to team up with Martha and a ukulele playing band of friends and The Ukuleles were born.
A twist of fate came when the band were spotted jamming on the beach by record producers Jeff Chegwin and Nick Patrick who were so impressed they immediately signed them to a recording deal.
The Ukuleles will release their debut album next month.
