South American flair will be turning up the heat on next year’s Showzam! festival.
Circolumbia is one of the headline acts for the festival, which runs from February 14 to 18.
The high-energy Columbian circus company presents a fusion of urban dance and contemporary circus skills, to produce a “circus like you’ve never seen it before.”
Making their home for the festival in Blackpool’s historic Tower Circus, there will be live stunts and thrills a-plenty.
The company brings a team of 14 highly-skilled and powerful performers with fearless grit to perform terrifying stunts live on stage.
And their show in Blackpool’s famed circus ring will be a new work, hosted in the resort by arts group LeftCoast, VisitBlackpool and SeaChange, who are thrilled to be bringing it to Blackpool ahead of its official premiere at the Roundhouse in London.
LeftCoast’s artistic director Michael Trainor said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Circolumbia to Blackpool in what we think is a first for the town.
“This really is a show like you’ve never seen before – an explosive coming together of killer circus and fast-paced dance moves.
“It’ll knock your circus socks off so treat yourself.”
The story is inspired by Columbia’s diverse communities and blends stupendous circus with high energy dance, performed to an original soundtrack.
All the company’s artists graduated from Columbia’s National School or Circo Para Todos (or Circus For All) that supports vulnerable and at risk young people in Columbia through circus training. The company includes some of the biggest stars of international circus who have been on an incredible journey to join the company.
Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and leisure said: “We’re really excited to see Circolumbia who have a reputation as incredibly exciting and dynamic performers.
“This is one of the first of many exciting acts to be announced for Showzam! which is building up to be as fantastic as ever.”
