Following the huge success of Billy Elliot at Blackpool Grand Theatre, Fame School of the Arts have confirmed West Side Story as their next youth production at the venue.
Leonard Bernstein’s show saw a turning point in American musical theatre.
Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet; it tells a tragic love story whilst exploring the rivalry between two gangs from different ethnic backgrounds.
With a dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes and a focus on timeless social problems, Fame has lifted the 1950’s classic and dropped it in the middle of a post 9/11 New York City, where passion, hatred and love are at a high.
The school’s creative team are now looking for fresh talent for this exciting contemporary production.
If you are between 10 and 25 years old and have a passion for acting, singing and dancing then you are invited to attend open auditions at the Fame School of the Arts in Preston today from 6pm and at the Blackpool Grand Theatre, Church Street, Blackpool on Sunday, January 22 from 10am.
“I never cease to be amazed by the talent and commitment of young people today,” said Kelle Wood, director of Fame School of Arts.
“To say I was overwhelmed by what the cast achieved during their production of Billy Elliot last year would be somewhat of an understatement and I feel genuinely excited about the prospect of beginning a new journey with fresh faces.
“To be able to provide young people with the opportunity to shine on the Blackpool Grand Theatre stage in front of a full house makes me feel unbelievably lucky.”

West Side Story is being staged at Blackpool Grand Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday, June 4 to 9.
