For all those who like to sit around the TV on a Saturday and watch Simon Cowell make smarmy comments about wannabe singers, this could be the gig you’ve been waiting for.
James Arthur – one of those who didn’t have too many smarmy comments fired his way on X-Factor, mainly because he turned out to be pretty good – has announced his first tour, which includes a night in Blackpool.
The 25-year-old, as any self-respecting X-Factor aficionado will know, won the show 12 months ago (beating Jahméne Douglas in the final) and seems as though he might be one of those X-Factor winners who has the talent to forge a lasting musical career.
He has been writing and recording songs since he was 15 and seems popular with the public – debut single Impossible (released last year and a cover of Shontelle’s 2010 hit) became the fastest-selling X-Factor winner’s single so far, reaching 255,000 downloads within 48 hours and over 490,000 by the end of the week.
The Middlesbrough lad has spent the last year recording his first album, which will be released on November 4, preceded by new single You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You (out October 26).
Arthur is then embarking on a rather mammoth 37-date tour around the UK and Europe at the start of next year.
He will be at the Opera House in Blackpool on Sunday January 26.
“We are really excited about James and the music he’s creating,” said a spokesman for the singer. “His first single, Impossible, was BRIT-nominated and his debut album is stunning.
“He has written it in collaboration with some of the world’s hottest producers, including Salaam Remi, Naughty Boy, TMS, and Da Internz, and we think people will be blown away when they hear it.
“The tour gives his fans the chance to hear him sing these new songs live.”
Tickets for the UK shows go on sale at 10am on Friday and are available at www.gigsandtours.com/tour/James-Arthur or by calling 0844 811 0051 or 0844 826 2826.
