Wymeswold’s The Wave Pictures teamed up with the Great British eccentric of garage rock, Billy Childish on last year’s album, Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon.
Childish is renowned for his one-take minimalism, but the trio - David Tattersall, Franic Rozycki, Jonny Helm - have stripped back their sound even more for vinyl-only release A Season in Hull.
It was recorded on acoustic guitars in one room, with a bunch of their friends, live in to one microphone on singer Tattersall’s birthday at Soup Studio, Limehouse in East London.
The songs were written as quickly as possible and this recording does capture the spontaneity of one special moment in time.
Fans of the Childish collaboration may miss some of its spiky guitar shredding, but the wit and romanticism of Tattersall shines out on tracks such as the lolloping groove of Slick Black River From The Rain and the title track.
