Have your say

Have you got Diamond standard vocal chords?

Can you sing sweetly, Caroline?

Budding Neil Diamonds are being called on to entertain shoppers – and be in with a chance of winning a VIP package for his show in the resort.

The legendary singer-songwriter will be performing his only outdoor show in his 2015 48-date world tour at Blackpool Football Club’s Bloomfield Road stadium on Thursday, July 23.

And fans are now being encouraged to take part in a special karaoke competition, searching for the best Neil Diamond impersonator who can belt out Sweet Caroline.

Anyone with stars – or should that be Diamonds – in their eyes can join in the fun at Houndshill Shopping Centre from noon until 2pm next Saturday, May 30.

Radio Wave’s Ged Mills will be judging the performances, with the best singer winning a VIP trip to the Blackpool show.

Event promoters Cuffe and Taylor are behind the Blackpool gig and director Peter Taylor said it was a great way to get people excited about the show.

Peter said: “I think you’d really struggle to find people who don’t know Sweet Caroline so we’re laying down the challenge and we want to hear from the best of them.

“There’s a real buzz that we’ve got such a huge star coming to Blackpool this summer so this is a bit of fun to remind people who haven’t yet bought their tickets that time is running out.

“We want our Neil Diamond impersonators to well and truly entertain the crowds in Houndshill and of course whoever sings Sweet Caroline the best on the day will win a fantastic prize.”

The winner’s prize will be two hot seat tickets to the Blackpool concert, with access to the VIP bar, a tour gift and souvenir lanyard.

The Blackpool show is the final date in the European leg of the tour, which is a near-sell out around the world.

It’s four years since Diamond last played in the UK and fans are in for a treat with old favourites such as Sweet Caroline, Song Sung Blue and Love on the Rocks played alongside tracks from his critically-acclaimed new album Melody Road.
