They may have made as many changes to members as Blackpool Football Club does to its managers, but The Drifters proved form is temporary and class is permanent with an uplifting set of timeless classics.

The Kings of Soul, whose numbers now total 65 members across 60 years, brought their UK-wide Diamond Dynasty Tour to the Grand on Sunday night.

Led ably by lead singer Michael Williams, whose infectious grin shined throughout the evening, the awesome foursome launched into a selection of their best hits, including On Broadway, Under The Boardwalk, Stand By Me and Saturday Night At The Movies.

A superb opening half had fleet-footed fans dancing in the aisles, barely containing their excitement, but the band hit an unfortunate bum note trying to promote newer music after the interval.

Like all well-versed performers however, the smooth talking stars soon had the audience back in the palms of their hands and wrapped up, inevitably, with Save The Last Dance For Me.
