It’s not just the young who know how to enjoy themselves, as this concert proved.
Reliving the glam rock decade had the audience dancing in the aisles by the end of the night; and no wonder.
In Germany, Sweet still fill arenas thanks to their hard rock sound, so it didn’t take much for the Grand to be pulsating with rapid fire hits including Wig-Wam Bam, and Teenage Rampage.
Only Andy Scott (right) remains from the classic line-up but this is the closest you can now get to the original sound.
There was also an acoustic set featuring Love Is Like Oxygen and Poppa Joe, along with Andy Scott’s Lady Starlight.
The show rounded off with a rousing performance of Sweet’s triple whammy of hits - Fox On The Run, Blockbuster! and The Ballroom Blitz.
Earlier the show was opened by Mud 2 who are effectively a tribute to one of the 70s’ best-loved bands, with renditions of favourites like the Cat Crept In, Tiger Feet and Lonely This Christmas.
The Rubettes, who completed the night’s line-up, could claim three original members, and put on an enjoyable set with highlights including vibrant drumming and their two big hits Juke Box Jive and Sugar Baby Love. SHELAGH PARKINSON
