Two men last night remained in custody after three people were stabbed during a fight at Blackpool Pier Jam.

The pair were still being quizzed by detectives on suspicion of attempted murder and assault, following the brawl on North Pier on Saturday night.

Magistrates yesterday granted police a further 36 hours to question them.

A 15-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man were also stabbed in the fracas.

It follows a large fight that broke out during the popular dance music event, as reported in yesterday’s Gazette, that left one man in hospital with multiple stab wounds.

A 23-year-old man is in a “serious but stable” condition in Royal Preston Hospital. Police say his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

We are continuing our investigation into this extremely serious incident which could easily have cost at least one young man his life.

Detectives are unsure what prompted the attack, at around 10.45pm, but say they are following up “a number of different lines of inquiry”.

Blackpool Council said it is aware of the incident – and the fact a 15-year-old boy was reportedly injured at an event billed as for over 18s.

According to the website, all customers are required to show ID to gain entry. It also says people will be searched on the way in.

The site adds: “This is for us to ensure that no one is carrying dangerous (items) into the venue.”

The Gazette understands the council is not directly investigating the incident but may yet do so if police ask for a review of the licence.

Det Insp Gareth Willis, of Blackpool CID, said: “We are continuing our investigation into this extremely serious incident which could easily have cost at least one young man his life.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank those witnesses who have already come forward to help us with our on-going enquiries.

“Around 2,000 people are thought to have attended this event and we are still keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to us.”

A 30-year-old man from Bradford and a 15-year-old boy from Manchester were also taken to hospital with minor stab wounds.

Two men, aged 20 and 26, both from Manchester, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault. They remain in custody.

Police say they have recovered a knife as part of their investigation.

Coun Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “We’re aware of the incident that occurred at North Pier on Saturday night.

“The police are now investigating and, as such, it would not be appropriate to comment at this stage.”
