One of the original Merseybeat stars Billy J Kramer is back in the UK – launching his first home tour in nearly 20 years at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre.
Billy was one of the many acts looked after by legendary manager Brian Epstein - the man who discovered The Beatles, among others.
On March 22, the original teen heartthrob returns to the UK to headline the Solid Silver 60s Show in its landmark 30th year, setting off on a 30-date tour from the Grand.
Billy said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to the UK with my band, The Rising.
“Having been touring in the US for quite a while, we have become like family.
“To be headlining the 30th year of the Solid Silver 60s, which also is my 50th year in the business, is a real privilege.”
With his band The Dakotas, Billy J Kramer was a central figure in the UK music scene of the 60s, as well as being considered part of the great British musical invasion in the US in 1964 and 1965.
Among his best known hits are Do You Want To Know A Secret, I’ll Be On My Way, Bad To Me, I Call Your Name and From A Window.
Asked about the enduring popularity of 60s’ music, he said: “Even if you take away The Beatles’ catalogue, there are more great pop songs during this decade than any other time in history.
“Even if you look now everybody is copying the old stuff.”
Also on the bill for the Solid Silver 60s Show 30th anniversary tour are the original voice of The Searchers Mike Pender, PP Arnold, Chris Farlowe, and special guests The Merseybeats.
Previous stars to have performed with the show include greats from the era such as Bobby Vee, Chris Montez, Brian Hyland and Gerry and The Pacemakers, among many more.
