A resort entertainer from Scotland is hoping Blackpool residents will give extra support to a new single release.
Murray Gee Mac has teamed up with his one-time manager and agent Jock Campbell to record My Scottish Home.
They go back to when Murray was starting out as a singer and entertainer in The Three Macs with his brothers, and Jock helped them become recording artists in the early 1980s.
But over the years they’d lost contact, and were reunited via social media website Facebook, when Murray signed up last year and Jock’s daughter tracked him down.
“Jock’s 85 now and had written me this track My Scottish Home, all about my homeland and going back there, his daughter told me,” he said.
“He has been trying to trace me for years and only when I joined Facebook last year then his daughter found me.
“He had done this song and wanted me to record it.
“He’s been blind for about six years now, but we’re so pleased with the response to the song as it’s going through the roof with radio play in Scotland.
“It’s like a new Scottish anthem - it’s got the feel of something like You Raise Me Up, a really emotional ballad.”
Murray, who lived in Cleveleys for a time before returning to his native Scotland, still plays in Blackpool most weeks, with regular dates at the Manhattan Hotel, at North Promenade, among others.
Now he’s hoping Blackpool residents will join the support for the song, with it released for sale on iTunes just a week ago.
“It’s early days after just a week on iTunes, but I’m delighted, it’s terrific,” he said.
“And it makes for such a lovely journey for Jock. He could turn out to be a legend with it being a new national anthem for the Scots.
“I hope Blackpool can support it too. The resort has been very special to me working there for many years.
“We hope the song will reach Scottish ex-pats not only in Blackpool but all over the world, and people like soldiers who are away from home.
“I never thought it was going to get the results we have had just so far - and so quickly.”
