Jess Roberts had better stock up on some dry shampoo.

The rising country music star, who has a voice to die for, is heading out on her first UK tour ... though on the downside it does mean spending two weeks in a van.

“I’m supporting a band and all of us are going to basically live in a van for a fortnight,” she said.

“It is going to be great going out on what will my first ever full proper tour.

“But I have to admit I’m a bit worried about where I’ll be able to have a shower - I’ll definitely be getting some of that dry shampoo stuff!”

Jess went to Holy Family school in Warton, then St Bede’s in Lytham, and got into country music via her dad Michael, who used to work at Great Birchwood, the country music venue near Lytham.

She has been handpicked by Ward Thomas - a successful country-Americano duo made up of sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward-Thomas - to support them on their tour of the country.

“Their manager heard some of my music in January and asked if I would like to join them on the tour so I was delighted and accepted straigthaway,” she said.

“I will be nervous because it’s quite a big thing for me but it is more excitement than nerves. I can’t wait to get on stage.”

It’s a big step forward for Jess, who has been racking up the plaudits on the music scene for the last 18 months (including being nominated for a Horizon Award for Best Newcomer at the British Country Music Awards) but now wants to take the next step and get a deal.

“I have started to record my EP, which is going to be released in April,” said the 20-year-old from Lytham.

“In fact the day after I get back from this tour I’m straight back into the studio in Manchester to carry on working on it so hopefully when that comes out it will catch the attention of a few people.”

Jess’ tour, supporting Ward Thomas, starts tonight at Gullivers in Manchester, before heading to The Ferret in Preston on Sunday, Liverpool on Monday and - and this is where Jess might have chance to nip home and get a proper shower - taking in the Blue Room in Blackpool on Tuesday.

After that there are dates in London, Exeter, Bristol and Plymouth to name just a few.

Jess is also heading to HMV in Blackpool to play a live acoustic set tomorrow. She’s on at 1pm, and also performing is fellow country singer Hannah Jane Lewis.
