Lytham’s star-studded Proms festival weekend will be one of the UK’s “greenest” ever events, organisers revealed today.
Concert promoters Cuffe and Taylor, who are behind the three-night event at Lytham Green, have signed a deal with environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
It means the festival, headlined by Rita Ora and Russell Watson on August 2-4, will feature on-site recycling facilities to encourage revellers to support the green project.
Green teams, designed to be similar to the Games Makers at the Olympics in London last year, will also be going around the site collecting recyclables from audience members.
And tonight Blackpool Tower will be lit up green to raise awareness of the link-up.
The event will also promote Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Where You Live campaign which aims to encourage people to take pride in their towns and cities.
Peter Taylor, festival director at Cuffe and Taylor, which is based in Blackpool, said: “We’ve always worked to the mantra of leaving Lytham Green in exactly the way we found it. However, this partnership reaffirms our commitment to doing this.
“In addition, we are working towards minimising waste from the festival.”
