A ‘local lad made good’ made history at the top of Blackpool Tower as he played the world’s highest DJ set - at 412ft above ground.

Lytham lad DJ Danny Howard returned to play his first set in Blackpool, since finding fame with BBC Radio 1, on Thursday night to launch the latest Randy Ron events, Skywalk Sunset Sessions.

Not wanting to let the occasion go without a bang, he and business partner Alex Huckerby, the other half of the Randy Ron enterprise, organised the unique events with The Blackpool Tower to run for the rest of August.

Danny said: “This is my first gig back in Blackpool and I always wanted it to be something special. To break a world record and DJ at such an iconic place is an honour.”

Alex added: “We’ve done every club in Blackpool and it’s about finding unique venues.”

Danny played around the North West with Randy Ron before winning a BBC Radio 1 competition, Superstar DJ, and landing himself the famed Dance Anthems show on the station, and gigs DJing around the world.

He said: “A few days ago I played to 10,000 people in Privilege in Ibiza, but you can’t compare that to here - this is one to tell the grandkids about.”

Now the former Lytham St Annes Technology College pupil is giving others a similar opportunity to the one offered to him by the BBC as the Skywalk events showcase top Fylde coast DJs.

He added: “The local DJs are all great it’s a great opportunity for them. I want people to enjoy the experience.

Kenny Mew, head of operations for The Blackpool Tower Eye, said: “We’re predominantly a tourist attraction but we want to use our space for something different and what better way to launch this than with a local lad made big. We’re really proud to do something different.”
