A Blackpool wannabe has been slammed on national prime time TV as a ‘horror’ by music mogul Simon Cowell.

Ryan Ruckledge was kicked off The X Factor after his drunken antics at the boot camp auditions, but not after Cowell and his fellow judges took him to task over his behaviour.

The 23-year-old telesales worker was seen performing in a group number, but was under-rehearsed and off-key after indulging in the free bar the night before.

The auditions took place at a country house in Hertfordshire, where contestants were told to form a group of members of each of the show’s four categories, groups, overs, boys and girls, then select a song to perform for the judging panel.

During rehearsals of Ellie Goulding hit Anything Can Happen, Ryan was seen ranting: “I don’t hate the competition. I just hate the song,” before asking for the strongest vodka and orange at the bar.

After several more drinks, he jumped into a pool - fully clothed - to sober up, but it was too little, too late.

When the group performed for judges, Cowell, Nick Grimshaw, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora, they all blasted him.

Ora said: “I just feel like he cares more about the fame side of things rather than the actual talent.”

While Radio 1 breakfest DJ Grimshaw adding: “He wants to be on Big Brother.”

Cowell was brutal in his assessment of Ruckledge: “Your attitude of what you did stank. You let yourself down, you made yourself look like a complete and utter idiot.”

He refused to give the unprepared contestant another chance: “I’m not interested in your attitude, your terrible voice and the fact that you decided getting drunk was more important than working with this lot.”

As the young man left, Cowell added: “What a horror of a human being.”

But Ruckledge had a last word for show bosses: “Tell Simon he can stick his show.”
