A Johnny Cash tribute artist dubbed as having an ‘uncanny resemblance’ to the legendary country star’s relatives has announced a date in Blackpool this autumn.
Clive John had established his own act as a singer-songwriter but when his friend and roadie gave him a Greatest Hits album by Cash, as a suggestion for some covers, he grew to love the work.
His friend Chris died from brain cancer, and Clive put any thoughts of the Cash tribute to one side, until he saw the biographical movie Walk The Line.
“I was so excited after watching the film and connected with the man and music so much I just knew deep down that was the way forward for my career,” he said.
“The songs, attitude and style are completely right for the style of person, singer and musician I am and to my knowledge there is no other artist that captures what the great man did.”
Johnny Cash’s best-known songs include I Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring Of Fire and Man In Black.
The 2005 film Walk The Line charted Cash’s life, with the musician played by Joaquin Phoenix and his wife June by Reese Witherspoon, in an Oscar-winning performance.
Clive added: “It’s taken a long time but I’m very proud to call this show my own. However I haven’t lost track of my own song-writing career and this is why I insist on keeping one of my own songs in the show. However I have put ‘Clive John’ as a singer/songwriter in a box for now while I focus on getting the Johnny Cash Roadshow as good as it can be.”
