Elijah is coming to town, in the form of baritone Mark Rowlinson who will sing the title role in Mendelssohn’s magnificent oratorio with the Lytham St Annes Choral Society next Saturday at 7.30 in Church Road Methodist Church, St Annes. Elijah tells in Mendelssohn’s exciting music brings to life the story of the greatest old testament prophet. This includes the three year drought over Israel, the resurrection of the widow’s dead son, Elijah’s challenge and defeat of the prophets of Baal, and his final dramatic ascent into heaven.
The other soloists are Maria Miró (soprano), Heather Lowe (mezzo soprano) and Elgan Thomas (tenor).
They are joined by Kirkham Grammar School Sixth form student Laura Mason who sings the part of the youth. The concert will be conducted by Andrew Barratt and accompanied by Ian Hare.
