The Friends of the Grand latest monthly Coffee Morning is on Thursday when they welcome Radio Wave’s News Editor Andy Mitchell as their guest speaker.
On the third Thursday of every month the Friends of the Grand hold a coffee morning at the Grand Theatre in the Lawrence House Studio from 10.30am when you can enjoy a coffee (or tea) and a cake or two, followed by a talk from the guest speaker.
Born and bred in Blackpool Andy Mitchell has been at Radio Wave for the last 20 years.
He began legitimately broadcasting at BBC Radio Lancashire when he was 18 years old, before moving to Red Rose Radio in 1983 where he was both reporter and presenter. In 1986 he joined Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio and reported on some of the UK’s biggest stories including The Moors Murders and the Strangeways Riots.
Andy moved back to Blackpool in 1992 to join the brand new local radio station, Radio Wave, as news editor.
At the coffee morning Andy will be talking about his role at Radio Wave – and what he has encountered in his years there.
The morning can be rounded off with a tour of the Glorious Grand led by ‘Frank Matchum’ who will take you behind the scenes and into areas not normally accessed by the public.
Theatre tours must be booked in advance when booking your ticket to the coffee morning.
Entrance to the coffee morning is £3. Tickets should be booked in advance at (01253) 743339, online at www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk or from the Grand Theatre information sales point in the Houndshill Shopping Centre.
