Former Blackpool-based singer Denise Nolan, of The Nolan Sisters, is performing a special intimate gig at The Sands Venue in Blackpool tomorrow with The Sands Swing Band.
The event will see her performing a selection of songs from her well-known Judy Garland show.
Rather than being a “tribute” performance it simply uses the same wonderful musical scores as the late diva, so you will hear Denise’s own, impressive voice, sung from the heart.
“If you love swing you will love these songs,” says Denise (pictured). “The repertoire includes Zing Went the Strings of My Heart, I Can’t Give You Anything But My Love, Just You, Just Me and many more.”
The Nolans, of course, are best-known for their song I’m In the Mood for Dancing which almost topped the charts and is still a popular dance floor filler to this day. In the early years, Denise Nolan, with her sisters, supported the likes of Engelbert Humperdinck and Frank Sinatra, and on stage she starred as Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers.
The majority of their charted singles and albums occurred in the early 1980s but they continued to be active until 2005 and were particularly successful in Japan. The sisters have pursued varying solo careers in acting, music and television presenting.
The evening will be compered by renowned bandleader and Blackpool firm favourite Andy Prior, who fronted his own ITV series which featured such high-profile guests as Peter Kay, Jacqui Dankworth, Clare Teal, Bill Tarmey and Lauren Waterwoth!
Denise says she is excited about the show as she is a regular customer and also a great fan of the venue. “I love the feel of the smaller theatres and specifically the atmosphere at The Sands,” said Denise.
Tickets for Swing Spectacular With Denise Nolan are £29.99 including a three course meal or £15.50 ticket only. Reservations – (01253) 625262 or www.the-sands-blackpool.co.uk
