Having a laugh in name of St George

Have your say

Award-winning Nellie Dean’s on North Promenade is one of the few Blackpool venues celebrating St George’s Day today.

“Our friends from Ireland celebrate St Patrick’s Day with such passion so I think St George’s Day could equally be rejoiced in the same way with camaraderie and organized events to support charities,” said Nellie Dean landlord Stephen Pierre. “With the success of our forces charity night last year I have decided to present another patriotic fund raiser for Supporting Our Brave.

“With the conflicts and tragic loss of British soldiers many younger people now respectfully support armed forces charities. Several local entertainers such as Ricky Lane, Vici Moran and Lionel Vinyl have kindly volunteered their time to present a full packed cabaret show headlined by comedienne Crissy Rock.

“Not only has Crissy offered time out from her busy schedule she is also happy to arrange a book signing of her autobiography From Bedlam To Benidorm.

“A number of local businesses have donated raffle prizes and admission is by donation. This being an especially patriotic year – with the celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee along with the Olympic Games being hosted in London, I feel that this could be the start of a more robust celebration of our patron saint’s day year on year,” said Stephen.
