Gyles Brandreth is eagerly anticipating taking a trip down Memory Lane as he brings his one-man show Word Power to Lowther Pavilion on Sunday.

The writer, broadcaster, award-ceremony host and former MP came to Lytham on holidays many years ago with his grandparents, who were based in east Lancashire.

“The first time I went to this area was with them, many years ago – so it will be good to be back,” he said.

“I’ve been to Blackpool, of course, a lot. I’ve done shows at the Grand Theatre and I think I still have a stick of Blackpool rock from about 1958.

“I don’t think I’m going to eat it now, though...”

Gyles regularly appears on TV’s The One Show, and has been on programmes ranging from Just A Minute and Workaholics, to QI and Have I Got News For You?

And he says those who ‘like words’ will enjoy the show: “It’s all about language and words and that great power they have – with language, you can do everything and anything.”

* Gyles’ show at Lowther on Sunday starts at 7.30pm. Call (01253) 794221 for tickets.
