Watch out Nando’s and KFC – Blackpool town centre has a new food outlet which it claims is “redefining fast food”.

Yahgo – pronounced like the Othello villain Iago – is on Clifton Street and held its official grand opening last week.

Specialising in chicken dishes – especially Piri Piri ones – Yahgo is the first of what proprietor Zakria Khan hopes will eventually be a nationwide chain.

“Redefining fast food is our company ethos and that’s exactly what we’re here to do,” said a spokesman.

“The face of fast food generally depicts a ‘greasy’ experience, with little or no attention to taste and quality.

“Other national brands such as Nando’s and KFC have established themselves in the market place but we feel that people are on the look out for something new and innovative.

“Our concept is to offer a new alternative delivering taste and quality but coupled with value and speed.”

Yahgo is open from 11am until late seven days a week and Zak says he hopes to divide his trade between daytime office workers, visitors, early doors diners and a later trade.

“We have priced ourselves very competitively for people who want to sit down and have a quick meal at lunchtime, after work, before they go out or after they have been out,” he said. “But we also see a large part of our trade being takeaways.”

He says he has worked with industry professionals and consultants who have been involved with brands such as Subway, Costa and other famous franchises to develop the concept.

Future outlets will be modelled on the Blackpool one complete with the specially designed Yahgo logo and colour scheme.

“Even before we opened we received a high level of interest from the public passing by,” he says. “We had a two week trial run and knew that all our hard work had paid off.

“We have already created a core customer base who have come back several times because they liked our food so much. We want people to identify us with quality and value wherever they see the Yahgo sign.”
