He might have performed in 25 countries, for the Prince of Monaco and Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai, but playing for fellow magicians at Blackpool Magic Convention ranks just as highly for illusionist and inventor Kevin James.
The leading magician says he can’t wait to bring his tricks back to Blackpool next week as part of The Illusionists – Witness The Impossible, UK tour.
The French-born America is best known in the magic circle for inventing tricks performed by David Copperfield, as well as mystifying when he performs.
He is The Inventor in The Illusionists, amazing audiences as he turns a wooden doll into a real-life mini Charlie Chaplin, shows a child how to make a paper rose levitate and makes it snow inside.
He’s performed to sell-out audiences in Sydney, Dubai and Mexico City with the six other magicians in The Illusionist, who include a mentalist and an escapologist.
And having shared his ideas here with other magicians in Blackpool, where better to bring the magic show’s world tour then than the UK’s magic capital?
“3,500 magicians all getting together and exchanging ideas – [Blackpool Magic Convention] is a blast,” said Kevin, who performed some of his tricks for the first time at the convention.
“I’ve performed in Blackpool twice, I love it.”
His trick sawing a surgeon in half and watching his two body halves move around stage kept fellow magicians and audiences talking for many years after it was showcased at the convention in the Winter Gardens.
It is this trick that amazed judges and audiences on America’s Got Talent too.
He’s now looking forward to returning to the resort on September 27 with the show.
He added: “My only trepidation is we don’t have enough free time to hang out more.”
