Festive cheer as pupils entertain packed Winter Gardens audience at Blackpool Music Service's Christmas Festival

Hundreds of Blackpool youngsters hit all the right notes as they entertained a packed audience at the Winter Gardens.

The popular event was back for a 16th year as the massed choir made up of more than 800 children sang a variety of well-loved Christmas songs, including When Children Ruled the World and In the stillness of the night.

More than 1,000 school pupils from across the resort performed at the Blackpool Music Service’s Christmas Festival in the Empress Ballroom on Wednesday night.

Blackpool Music Services BASSO Orchestra, First Beat Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Brass Band and the Youth Concert Band also performed on the night.
The evening included a solo spot for the talented Alice Irving, who is Blackpool Music Service Pop Idol key stage three winner. She had the audience on their feet with her rendition of All I want for Christmas is You.

Music adviser Andrew White said: This is what we do best. We celebrate the musical successes of all Blackpool children. The event was totally inclusive and featured combined performances from 90 per cent of Blackpool schools."
Mr White added: This was a fantastic achievement in itself and fully highlights the strength of music-making in Blackpool."
