Tumble down the rabbit hole and into a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the Winter Gardens this Easter.

Friends of the historic venue are holding an event for visitors to play croquet, meet Alice and the Mad Hatter, enjoy tea and cakes and join free craft workshops at the resort venue, all to raise funds for the Winter Gardens Trust.

The event takes place in the Derham Lounge, in the complex, this Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, with craft stalls for children to make Easter cards, decorate an egg or create their own bonnet.

Elaine Smith, a member of the Trust, said: “The response to our Christmas Tree festival was amazing and several of the groups taking part asked us to do something similar for Easter.

“As well as the competitions for groups we’re thrilled to have the generous support of the Houndshill Shopping Centre which means we can now offer free admission, free activities and prizes for bonnets and eggs decorated over the weekend.”

Debbs Lancelott, Houndshill centre manager, added: “This is set to be a great event that will bring the community together over the holidays. It is also a great link to the Illuminations that we are always keen to get involved in.”
