A painting by a Blackpool art student is to hang in a scholars exhibition in London.

The work by Heather Stephenson, a 19-year-old artist from Marton, will feature in the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) and Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) Scholars Exhibition.

The piece, produced during her time at Blackpool Sixth Form College, was chosen from 368 submissions, chosen for displaying the “highest levels of skill, expression and draughtsmanship”, curators said.

The selected works by 19 young artists will be displayed alongside those of professional artists at the Mall Galleries in London from March 11 to 21.

Elaine Little, head of visual arts at Blackpool Sixth, said: “We are delighted by Heather’s selection for these prestigious exhibitions. We are sure that she has a brilliant future ahead of her as an artist.”

And it is not her first piece to be exhibited.

Miss Stephenson’s work has already been shown as part of the RBA’s ‘Rising Stars’ exhibition at Lloyds Registry Gallery, in London.

The former Montgomery High School is now studying an art foundation degree course.
