Richardson’s Fish Bar in Fleetwood has been named as North West England’s top fish and chip shop for the second year running.

The fish and chips takeaway and restaurant, based on Dock Street, received the accolade in the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award category of the 2014 National Fish & Chip Awards.

It is organised each year by Seafish, the authority on seafood.

The Fleetwood establishment is one of 10 shops, each representing one of 10 regions across the UK, to be hailed as the crème de le crème of the fish frying industry, winning a place in the final next year.

Each of the hopefuls has been put through a rigorous, multi-stage judging process where they have been assessed on every aspect of running a fish and chip business from food quality to marketing initiatives and staff training policies.

Chris Richardson, owner of the Fish Bar, said: “This is the second time in as many years that we’ve managed to make the final so it’s good to know that we’ve been able to maintain the high standards this competition expects.

“It’s our belief that entering the awards and pitting ourselves against the best of the best in the industry is the perfect way to improve the business.”

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at The Lancaster London hotel on January 22 next year.
