Club night's a fact not Fiction for film fans

Bootleg Social will start its new series of Bootleg Movies nights on Friday, with Pulp Fiction.

Following a screening of the Quentin Tarantino classic, the Topping Street bar will host Jack Rabbit Slim’s Bootleg Boogie club night, honouring the music from the director’s CV.

The night, which bar bosses hope will become a monthly outing, follows on from the launch of their £1 Cinema on Wednesday evenings.

Stephen Skelly from Bootleg said: “Bootleg Movies is a new event series aimed squarely at all those whose eyes and ears are fascinated with the magic of the big screen.

“The nights will showcases movie followed by a club night inspired by the music, themes and tone of the film we’ve just watched.

“For our inaugural event, we’re screening Quentin Tarantino’s now-classic Sophomore feature Pulp Fiction; the film that transported the video-store-clerk-turned-director from plucky newbie to all-out star.”

Inspired by the name of the diner where Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega, played by Uma Thurman and John Travolta, twist to Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell in the film, Bootleg will turn into Jack Rabbit Slim’s into the early hours.

Stephen added: “From the 70s sleaze of Reservoir Dogs, to the backstreet jive of Jackie Brown and everything in between.

“We’ll even throw in some of the seminal sounds associated with the director’s extended work. Expect the 80s-excess score of Tony Scott’s True Romance, creeping terror of Grindhouse chunk Death Proof and loads more.

“To top things off, we want to see attendees showing their true Tarantino colours. That’s why we’re encouraging all viewers to come dressed to the nines as their favourite shady Tarantino character.

“We want to fill Bootleg Social with more Vincent Vegas, Beatrix Kiddos and Mr Oranges than you can wave a gun at, all in the name of celebrating the work of one of today’s finest auteurs.”

Entry costs £5, for the screening and club night, opening from 6pm, with club night entry only costing £3.
