Puccini’s Sister Angelica, one of the trio of short operas known as The Triptych, will be performed by Musica Lirica Opera at St Paul’s Church, Marton on Monday and Tuesday November 21 and 22 at 7.30 pm.
This neglected work tells of the disgraced aristocrat, Sister Angelica, who takes her own life, in typical Puccini style, on hearing of the death of her seven year old son.
“The operas characters include an array of nuns which could have easily provided a template for those in The Sound of Music or Sister Act – a distinguished Abbess and an evil old aunt,” says producer Michael Hall.
The opera is accompanied by Lytham Light Orchestra and the second half of the evening will include duets, arias and opera choruses.
Tickets are available in advance or on the door: £8.50, £6.50 and under 16s free.
