IF you’ve always thought you were a bit of brainbox when it comes to a pub quiz, then, thanks to The Castle Gardens in Carleton, this could be your big break.

The pub is taking part in the annual Great Ember Quiz, a national contest to find the brainiest pub in Britain, which, this year, is being fronted by well-known broadcaster, John Sergeant (pictured) – also famed for his moves on the dance floor.

In an effort to raise £20,000 for children’s charity Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK, national pub group Ember has launched a nationwide search to uncover the ultimate brainiacs of 130 towns across the UK in a series of pub heats taking place until March 31.

The highest scoring team from each pub will then be pitted against one another at one of 10 regional finals taking place across the UK.

The teams with the best regional scores will each win a place at the coveted national final, hosted by John Sergeant, on Saturday May 26.

Here, 10 teams will go head-to-head for the chance to scoop the first prize of £4,000 and £2,000 reward for runner-up, not to mention the accolade of being Great Ember Quiz Champions 2012.

John Sergeant comments: “I’m thrilled to be fronting the Great Ember Quiz in aid of Make-A-Wish, helping to grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

“It’s for a fantastic cause, so I’d like to encourage everyone to show their support and pop down to the Castle Gardens where you can test your knowledge whilst also helping to raise money for a very worthwhile charity.

“Remember, you have to be in it to win it, so make sure it’s your team that’s waltzing their way through to the final this year!”

What’s more, customers who take part in the Castle Gardens’ Sunday quiz will be entered into a national Ember prize draw to win £500 each week – that’s £25,000 across the year.
