Fleetwood tenor Alfie Boe is to join the cast of Les Miserables on Broadway.

The former TVR mechanic will once more play the role of Jean Valjean, this time at the Imperial Theatre in New York City, from September 1.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages about me going back into Les Miserables on Broadway

He first performed the role in 2010, as part of the O2 Arena concert performance marking the musical’s 25th anniversary, before joining the Queen’s Theatre cast in for a five month run in 2011.

Boe’s major professional break-through came on Broadway, as Alfred Boe, in Baz Luhrmann’s production of La Boheme in 2002, for which the cast received a Tony Honors(CRCT) Award in 2003.

He will take over the role on Broadway, where the show’s revival production opened in March last year, from Tony and Olivier Award winning actor Ramin Karimloo.

He sent a series of Tweets following the announcement, saying: “Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages about me going back into Les Miserables on Broadway. Overwhelmed by all your beautiful messages, much love.

“Can’t wait to join the cast of @LesMizBway. Sending my love and respect to all.”
