A future star of stage and screen is appealing to Gazette readers for their help in realising her dream of attending the country’s top drama school.
Bethany King, 18, of Kylemore Avenue, Bispham, has been offered a place at the world-renowned Italia Conti School for Performing Arts in London – but is set to miss out after struggling to afford the £16,000 a year tuition fees.
The former Blackpool and The Fylde College student, currently studying musical theatre at Liverpool Theatre won a place at the academy after a gruelling audition process.
But after losing out on a scholarship her dream is set to be dashed – unless the money can be raised by September.
Bethany said: “This year I decided to audition for drama schools in London and I was lucky enough to be offered a place on a three year perfoming arts course at one of the most prestigious drama schools in the country – Italia Conti.
“I have been unfortunate in not being offered any funding, which leaves me with £16,000 pounds a year to find and my living expenses on top.
“The Government do not offer any sort of student loan to cover this cost.
“This has been all I have ever wanted to do since I can remember and can’t imagine my life without it.
“It means everything to me.
“The type of tuition I will get will help me get roles in London. I want to go there and go abroad.”
The school, named after the actress Italia Conti, first opened in 1911 and teaches dance, singing and acting.
In recent years it has produced famous UK names including the likes of Kelly Brook, Pixie Lott and Russell Brand.
Bethany, who learned her skills at the Nicky Figgins Centre Stage Academy and Tiptoes Theatre School in Blackpool, was offered a place at the academy after acting, dancing and singing auditions.
But she now faces missing out on the country’s top drama school, unless a donor can be found.
She added: “I want to go to the West End and perform in musicals – I would love to appear in Miss Saigon.
“I want to go to the best places for tuition to help further my career.”
