One of the UK’s biggest dance festivals is set to start in Blackpool.

The Blackpool Dance Festival begins on Thursday and continues until May 29.

Covering nine days, the event is the largest of the five Blackpool dance festivals.

Close to 3,000 dancers attended last year’s event, with many more expected this year.

The event is held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and includes Ballroom and Latin American dancing, and the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, as well as Formation Teams.

A spokesman for the Winter Gardens said: “Last year was the event’s 89th year and there were 60 countries represented.

“A total number of 2,950 entries took part in the 12 events, including two Ballroom Formation Teams and 10 Latin Formation Teams.”
