Sequins, sparkle and showbiz high kicks are order of the day for a two-night run of shows by Blackpool darling Betty Legs Diamond.

The former Funny Girl is performing at Viva Blackpool next week, fresh from a West End performance in London’s Leicester Square Theatre and the launch of a new show at her Newcastle residency at Boulevard.

With a cast of Broadway Dancers and the glamorous hostess Miss Rory, Betty’s new show offers some subtle changes to its well-loved

Viva managing director Martin Heywood said he is excited about the return of one of Blackpool’s most famous performers to the venue.

He added: “After seeing people queue around the block last time Betty was in town here at Viva, we’re so excited that Betty and her team are here for a two-night run this time around. We can’t wait to see what the girls and boys will be performing. Of course Betty is so well loved and we’d love to bring her back to town more often, but they are very busy up in Newcastle at Boulevard so we’d encourage everyone to take full advantage and come to see the shows next week.”

Betty Legs Diamond was one of the founders of the now legendary Funny Girls club, on Dickson Road, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, but quit the venue and the North West for Newcastle in 2010.

Speaking earlier this year, Simon Green, the dancer, choreographer and performer behind Betty, said he was happy to be coming back to the town and welcomed recent changes. He said: “I have a lot of friends and fans still around who aren’t able to come and see the show at Boulevard in Newcastle, so they are always asking when are you coming back, when can we see you.

“The town has changed and it’s nice to see investment, eventually. It had been left to rack and ruin. They are taking it back to a more wholesome resort.”

Tickets cost £14 for reserved seating or £39.90 including three-course dinner. Betty’s show’s start at 7.30pm, with doors from 5.30pm and last entry for dinner at 6pm. The show is for over 16s only. Tickets are now on sale via the VIVA! Box Office open from 10am daily. Call 01253 (297297) or visit
