An author’s first foray into the literary world has officially taken flight.

Resort photographer Rob Lock has launched his first book, Murmuration, with a sunkissed party on Blackpool’s North Pier.

The book, published by Legend Press, tells the story of five different people whose lives are connected in one way or another to the pier of a seaside resort - although it is not directly based on Blackpool.

Rob said: “After so many years of imagining my novel’s official launch party, there was the faintest concern that the reality might not live up to expectations, but I needn’t have worried.

“Saturday night’s party on North Pier was wonderful, a great gathering of friends from across the country on one of Blackpool’s most iconic structures.

“Even the weather was perfect.

“Thank you to everyone who attended, with special mentions for Colin and Barry the town criers, Martine and the Sedgwicks for letting me use the pier, Elaine for organising book sales and Libby Gomm for photographing the event.

“Just as a footnote, according to Elaine I sold more copies of Murmuration on the night than Michael Caine did when she hosted his book tour! I’ll take that.’
