Kendal calling for new artworks

Have your say

The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal is calling for visual artists across the North of England to submit artworks to win cash prizes and for the opportunity to exhibit in Kendal gallery spaces from October 1 to November 10.

Open Up North has been developed to give both non-professional and professional artists the chance to show work together in six exhibition spaces in Kendal. The exhibition, with a top prize of £1,000, is open to artists from across the North of England and it is estimated there will be up to 150 artworks on display. Full details of how to apply and an application form are on the website at:

Open Up North will be open to submissions of 2D artworks including paintings, drawings, printmaking and photography. However 3D work, such as sculpture, and digital/film installations cannot be accommodated this year.

As well as a top prize of 1,000 for the best piece of artwork submitted, there are 2nd and 3rd prizes of 500 and 200, respectively.

Artists in their first three years of professional practice can enter the special emerging artist category to win a prize of 500. They will also be offered an exhibition at the Brewery Arts Centre. The exhibition will be mounted at a time and in a style right for the artist, and they will receive full curatorial and marketing support needed for a successful solo exhibition.
