FYLDE ice king Dan Whiston is hoping to keep cool under pressure on Sunday to skate through to the Dancing on Ice grand final.
Dan and his partner on the ice, Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, were voted through to this week’s semi-final after their quarter-final routine to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way scored 30 points with the judges.
And they plan to use every spare minute they have this week perfecting their moves, which will include Beth ‘flying’ over the rink.
Former Hot Ice star Dan said: “We really loved our quarter final dance. We had so much fun and it went really well.
“It was the best we had actually performed it on the night, because we were having a nightmare with the hula hoop in training.
“It kept hitting me on the head and we were getting caught up in it.
“We never expected to come so far in the competition and we are so grateful to everyone for voting for us. The support we’ve had from the public has been fantastic.
“Now it’s the semi-final, we’re just going to go out there, give it our best and just really enjoy it.
“It’s flying week this week, where the celebrities will be suspended with wires and it’s proving challenging for Beth as she keeps feeling sick and dizzy.”
Beth said: “I’m really enjoying the competition and working with Dan has been brilliant.
“To get this far is amazing. My biggest fear was I would end up leaving the show in week one or two.
“To get through each week has been great.
“We always try to turn the comments from the judges into a positive and work on what they say.
“Jason might get some people’s backs up, but he is there to give his comments and it does help make the show entertaining.
“We’re going to work hard this week and do our best on Sunday. I’m definitely going to keep skating when the show has finished.
“I’ve spent so much time doing it and I really enjoy it.”
