Two young dancers from the Fylde are walking on air after winning national honours at their first attempt.
Anya Trachillis, 12, from Poulton, and Karis Lomax, nine, from Bispham are part of a dance crew called GirlCode which has only been training together since August. Anya, who is a pupil at Hodgson Academy School in Poulton, took gold in the solo section at the recent Street Dance International Championships held at the Winter Gardens, before teaming up with Karis to win the duo category. The other dancers in the crew are from the Midlands and they only train together on a Saturday afternoon. Now organisers hope to launch a street dance troupe in Blackpool, and are also encouraging boys to join up. All the girls in GirlCode are aged under 12 years old. Their choreographer Dee Spencer said: “The girls have worked extremely hard in a short space of time, and also travel very far to be able to train with the rest of their crew. I am very proud of them.” The crew are part of the Full Out Dance Company. Dee, who is herself a former professional dancer, will be holding auditions in Blackpool next month in the hope of finding other talented young dancers to train in Blackpool.
