Opera singer Lucy Kay will be among the acts helping switch on Blackpool’s Christmas lights this year.
The vocalist, who has been described as the “people’s soprano”, is among a line up which is hoping to create a festive party atmosphere on Saturday, November 22.
A stage will be erected in St John’s Square for the free event which is being organised by Blackpool BID (Business Improvement District), in partnership with radio station Rock FM.
Lucy Kay was a finalist in Britain’s Got Talent and has recently topped the charts with her classical album Fantasia.
She trained at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and following her appearance on the show, has landed a multi-album deal with Sony Classical.
Also on the bill to entertain the crowds is another star from Britain’s Got Talent, Bailey McConnell, as well as Blackpool electro band Myth of Unity.
The stars will be switching on the lights at 5.30pm and showing off a new style giant Christmas tree which will be the centrepiece of the celebrations.
For the grand finale Santa and fun band Black Lace will round off the afternoon with a knees up on stage.
Eileen Ormand, town centre and BID manager, said: “This year’s free Christmas Lights Switch On show promises to have a real party atmosphere and the mix of music styles including the very talented Lucy Kay will really kick start Christmas for us all and offers something for every taste.”
Last year’s switch-on attracted large crowds with a line up that included Coronation Street actress Georgia May Foote, who plays Katy Armstrong, Emmerdale actor Tom Lister, Britain’s Got Talent Winner Jai McDowell and Blackpool boxing champion Brian Rose.
