TWO young dancers have earned a dream chance to perform with the English Youth Ballet.

Adam Peet-Harrison, 15, from Kirkham, and 12-year-old Adelene Furnell, who lives in St Annes, will take part in the company’s production of Swan Lake at Preston’s Charter Theatre in the spring.

They are both members of the Clifton Academy of Dance, Music and Drama and successfully passed local auditions which featured up to 100 young people aged between 12 and 18 and saw 50 chosen for the Preston production, scheduled for April 5 and 6.

It was the first time Clifton Academy had put forward students for the English Youth Ballet auditions.

Amy Pemberton, Adam and Adelene’s ballet teacher, said: “We are so proud.”

Adam, a pupil at Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College, and Adelene, who attends St Bede’s RC High School in Lytham, are both in the cast of Fame Jr, which Clifton Academy is staging at Lytham’s Lowther Pavilion tonight, tomorrow and on Saturday. From February they face a hectic schedule of rehearsals five hours a day every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Adam has been performing since he was eight but he has only been specialising in ballet for two years, since he joined Clifton for a production of Billy Elliot.

In an echo of the storyline, he was one of only four boys to audition for the English Youth Ballet, with only two getting through.

“I am so pleased and really looking forward to it,” he said.

Adelene started dancing at Clifton at the age of seven and said: “I’m extremely happy to be given the opportunity with the English Youth Ballet company.”
