BLACKPOOL’S Comedy Carpet has been nominated for the 2012 Marsh Award for Excellence in Public Sculpture.

The Promenade attraction is up against a controversial statue, erected by former Harrod’s owner Mohamed Al-Fayed, of singer Michael Jackson outside Fulham Football Club in London.

Also nominated is Royal Beasts by Kendra Haste, made up of 12 animal sculptures based on the zoo once housed in the Tower of London.

A shortlist will be made up in July with the winners announced in November.
