What a n-ice time Dan Whiston is having!
The Poulton skating star has just come back from New York and headed straight into rehearsals for the final series of Dancing on Ice, with his childhood chum Hayley Tamaddon.
Three-times Dancing on Ice champion Dan had travelled to the Big Apple with his partner from last year’s series, Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, to film a show for NBC called Progressive – a skating and gymnastic spectacular.
As well as taking part in the programme, the pair were able to look around the sites of the famous city – like the Rockefeller Center, Macy’s and Central Park – where they had chance to do some skating.
Dan, 37, said: “It was absolutely amazing.
“We had the most fantastic time. I got a phone call six months ago asking Beth and I to take part in the TV show for NBC.
“It involved Olympic gymnasts and Olympic skaters, with apparatus set up on the ice.
“The producers had seen my work in the Olympic 2012 ceremony, so they asked me to choreograph some of the routines for the show.
“Beth did a floor routine, which I choreographed and then we did a routine skating together. We really enjoyed it.
“It was such a great experience and we also got to go skating in Central Park, which was amazing.
“At Christmas, it’s just so beautiful.
“Then we came home and went straight into rehearsals for Dancing on Ice, although it felt a little bit strange to be going off skating with different partners.
“But I am delighted to be skating with Hayley again, it’s brilliant.”
Dan and Coronation Street star Hayley skated to victory in 2010, in series five of Dancing on Ice, his second time as champion. He previously scooped the title with Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye.
Dan said: “We are really busy at the moment, using every moment to rehearse and practise.
“The other night Jubilee Ice Arena in Cleveleys kindly let us use the building for the night and there we were at midnight, still skating. Hayley has a busy schedule with Coronation Street, so we are just working as hard as we possibly can.
“Everything is so hectic and busy, but we are having great fun.
“We can’t believe we have this chance to go back and skate together again, we feel really lucky.
“We will be taking a couple of days off for a short break for Christmas, but will be straight back into it.
“I must admit, I am looking forward to putting my feet up over Christmas.”
Dan won’t be the only Fylde coast skater in the final series of the hit ITV1 show, which starts on January 5.
Hot Ice star Katie Stainsby, from St Annes, will be taking to the ice with EastEnders actor Gary Lucy.
