It was good vs evil at the Megaslam Wrestling show at Norbreck Castle on Wednesday, and things took a turn for the worse when Team Megaslam hero Joey Hayes was wiped out by Team Nasty heel Robbie ‘Simply The Best’ McKenzie.

The wrestling renegade then turned his rage on a member of the audience.

Luckily, Steven Stevens - better known as TITAN, musclebound star of Planet Circus and the Blackpool Tower - was more than happy to step up to the challenge.

Steven, 29, of West Drive, Cleveleys, said: “All the audience was cheering because I’m Blackpool’s own. We squared up in the middle of the ring. He was giving me the thousand yard stare, then he told me I was just as bad as the rest of them and got me across the face.”

Not willing to take the insult lying down, Steven rushed McKenzie across the ring before lifting the villain - who was dwarfed by the strongman - high above his head.

The planned performance came as a surprise to the cheering crowd, who had no idea that Steven was going to make an appearance.

Steven, who holds the British record for a single arm dumbbell press at 120kg and trains using metal logs instead of weights, said: “Nothing beats performing in front of your home town crowd, because they are all with you. You hear the kids screaming and chanting your name and you’re like a modern day hero to them, and the grown-ups all feel like they’re kids again watching the good guys triumph over the bad guys. It’s a beautiful feeling and it was an incredible experience.”

FACE V HEEL

Team Megaslam vs Team Nasty performance at the Norbreck Castle was a classic ‘face vs heel’ match, in which good-guy wrestlers face off against arrogant, cowardly, or monstrous opponents.

The match was attended by 1,289 wrestling fans.

After proving no match for Planet Circus strongman Steven, Robbie McKenzie was defeated by Joey Hayes, who made a miraculous recovery just in time to deliver the finishing blow.

Steven said: “All the male and female wrestlers were amazing, as they put on an incredible night.”

The show will return to Norbreck in August.
