Thornton debut for new musical

Jordan, who’s studying creative writing, explains: “I thought why not write an original musical, with new songs that echo the 50s era?

His story features six American teenagers living in a small, close-minded town and how they cope with issues of the time.

Jordan adds: “The show is all about the frustration that teenagers felt in the 1950s, and the ways in which they tried to find relief and blow off steam, like hosting house parties, hanging around milkshake bars and trying to fall in love, with rock n roll music an ever present feature.”

The show is performed by young people aged 15 to 20. Jordan adds: “We’ve all been part of shows as actors, and we all strived for the chance to put a show on ourselves and to make something new. For older people it’s a nice throwback: we have the poodle skirts, we have the jukeboxes, we have the electric rock n roll music. For younger people, it’s not only a chance to experience the 50s and the whole atmosphere of excitement it created, but also to see that this era was full of social problems that are still evident today - it wasn’t all just milkshakes and cadillacs.”
